Rural House Extension 2017

The brief was to design a single-storey extension that utilised the natural daylight from the south facing elevation. The clients requested an open-plan living area to provide additional floor space for their growing family whilst adding value to the property.

The extension relates to the existing house by keeping the same vernacular form and details of the existing roof. The untreated timber Siberian larch cladding relates back to the surrounding forest and nestles well into the surrounding context. A particular design feature was the inclusion of a  large extruded zinc clad box housing a window seat that projects into the garden creating a relaxing reading area with views of the surrounding woodlands.
